Manchester Giants: The Story So Far

I have very kindly been invited down to the Manchester Giants game against Plymouth Raiders on Sunday 1st March, so I thought I’d give you a little back story about the team so we’re allllll up to date on that knowledge!

During the late 90s, Manchester Giants was the biggest club in the U.K. in basketball, and after a decade of absence, Manchester Giants returned in the 2012/13 season where they reclaimed their place in the Professional British Basketball League. They were resurrected by a team of basketball enthusiasts, and basketball fans couldn’t be more thrilled. After being left heartbroken when their beloved Giants disappeared from the British Basketball League in 2001, fans did not let their spirit die. Instead, Manchester became a vibrant scene for amateur basketball and upon their return in 2012, Giants were able to offer these “home grown talents” a chance to “go pro” in their own city.

Manchester Giants have certainly come back with a bang! And as of February 2020 they have played 18 games in the British Basketball League, with 13 more games remaining. Last season saw success for the giants with them winning 19 games and getting to the semi finals of both the British Basketball League cup and trophy… pretty impressive right?! And in fact, their most successful season since their return in 2012. Sadly, the start of the 2019/20 season has been disappointing for Giants, with nothing in the win column, however, their performance is improving with each game and fans have still definitely got the hope and spirit for their believed Giants. In fact, head coach Danny Byrne, said that the best thing about this season so far was “the loyalty and support of the Giant Fans who without hesitation, are the best in the league”

The Giants return to action against Sheffield Sharks on Sunday 16th February. Tickets are available to buy on the Manchester Giants Website. And, I have some pretty good news for you! A “final six ticket” has been put on sale, which covers all six of the remaining home games for the price of four, what a bargain! All tickets are available to buy on the website.
