*A quick note, as I was reviewing this event I was allowed to travel into Wales under the exemption of work. If you are planning on going to FestEvil, please make sure you keep up to date on their website or their Facebook page to see what the current guidelines are and if you are able to attend. Please don’t break any of the government guidelines*
2020 has been a bit of a year, hasn’t it? With plans being cancelled at every given opportunity I was gutted that I didn’t have any plans to fill Spooky Season, which is one of my favourite times in the year! But then I heard about FestEvil, brought to you by Cyclone Events, which has a Covid Friendly take on your typical Halloween scare festival.
Now, I like to pretend that I don’t get scared easily. The truth is far from it. Even the clown masks you get in shops terrify me, but I thought to myself it’s okay I’ll be in the car, just how bad can it be. My naivety really does astound me sometimes, as the actual way the evening panned out resulted in me sat in the car screaming on the edge of tears from fear.
FestEvil is a drive-thru scare maze based in Wrexham, and I will be the first to say that it is terrifying! The basic concept is, you drive round in your car stopping at each different stop point. When you’re stopped you have to ensure your engine is turned off (thank gosh ours was, we would probably have ran someone over…) and then that scene will be acted out for you. Once the scene has ended you can then move on to the next scene. The whole experience lasts for around 20 minutes, but when you’re trapped in a car with no escape from it all it feels like a lifetime!
This event certainly isn’t for the faint hearted, and I’d fully suggest making sure you don’t need the toilet before you enter! From the tapping on your windows, to the unexpected scary arrivals, you are never short of terrifying thrills while driving around, and trust me you will be kept on your toes!
No detail has been spared and the setting is incredibly awful, in a totally horror way! Every last detail has clearly been thought about, and it pays off when even the decorations leave you creeped out before the scene has even begun.
The event on a whole is extremely Covid secure, so it is one that I would recommend to anyone who is in need of a spooky fix! From the moment you arrive, until the moment you leave there is no need for you to leave your car, and the team at FestEvil are making sure every rule is followed to ensure both you, and them, are kept safe.
Dare you face the unknown that’s waiting for you at FestEvil? I suggest you do, but don’t come crying to me when you are left terrified to sleep!
Let me know if you go and what you think of it! And make sure you tag the guys over at FestEvil/Cyclone Events and let them know what you thought, they’ve worked so hard on this and you can really tell!
